RED SEMKO

Red Semko Onion is an early universal hybrid of bulb onion with dark purple color, intended for cultivation in an annual crop from seeds or seed onions. The bulb has a round shape, the diameter ranges from 6 to 10 cm, and the mass varies within 60-100 g. Dry skins are colored purplish-red or dark purple, while juicy skins are white with dark red epidermis. The onion taste is semi-sharp, making it versatile for various culinary purposes. Leaves are of medium size, dark green with a moderate intensity of wax coating, which contributes to good plant resistance.

The period from germination to mass yellowing of leaves is 90-95 days, characterizing the variety as mid-season. The onion is single or single-double-chambered, with a thin neck, which facilitates harvesting and storage. Ripeness before harvesting reaches 89-93%, and after after-ripening 99-100%, ensuring high storability and suitability for long-term storage. Average yield is 4-5 kg per square meter or 218-337 centners per hectare, making this hybrid economically profitable for cultivation.

It is recommended to grow Red Semko onion in conditions of long and medium daylight hours with a planting rate of 1–1.2 million plants per hectare and a sowing scheme of 30x5 cm. Due to its characteristics and high yield, this hybrid is excellent for cultivation in the Central region and other areas with similar climatic conditions. The onion is versatile in application, suitable for fresh consumption, culinary processing, and storage.
