Onion Red Floyd

Consistency and Quality in Red Onion Production

The Red Floyd onion hybrid by Monsanto is a top-tier choice for professional growers prioritizing marketability and long-term storage potential. In the competitive red onion segment, this hybrid is recognized for its agronomic predictability across diverse climatic conditions, making it a reliable asset for commercial farming operations.

Key Agronomic Strengths

• Uniformity: The hybrid produces highly consistent bulb sizes, significantly reducing labor during post-harvest grading and packing.
• Robust Root System: Strong root development allows the plant to withstand environmental stressors and optimize nutrient uptake from the soil.
• Maturity and Yield: It maintains a balanced growth cycle, ensuring stable yields even when faced with fluctuating seasonal weather patterns.
• Shelf Life: The thick, durable outer scales protect the bulb effectively, ensuring that the harvest remains in prime condition during extended storage.

Who Should Choose Red Floyd?

Red Floyd is specifically suited for farmers targeting retail supply chains, where bulb appearance, color intensity, and firmness are critical requirements. As a hybrid, it demands standard professional agricultural practices, particularly consistent irrigation during the bulb-bulking phase. Unlike many market alternatives, it demonstrates high resistance to bolting and splitting caused by rapid soil moisture changes, which helps minimize waste during cold storage. Growers should note that maximizing its potential requires a strategic fertilization program during the early development stages.
