Onion POTEMKIN

Agronomic Profile of the Potemkin Onion Variety

The 'Potemkin' variety, developed by Evro-Semena, is a specialized cultivar designed for producers targeting the fresh salad market. With a maturity cycle ranging from 100 to 120 days, this onion provides a reliable, mid-season harvest suitable for various temperate growing regions.

Morphology and Market Value

The defining characteristic of 'Potemkin' is its distinctive flat bulb shape. This form is highly valued in the processing and catering industries for the ease of slicing. Each bulb typically reaches a mass of 90–100 grams, maintaining consistent size distribution throughout the field. The deep red color of the outer scales provides high visual appeal, making it a strong candidate for retail distribution where aesthetic quality is a primary driver of purchase.

Storage and Utility

This variety serves a dual purpose: it is excellent for fresh consumption due to its balanced flavor profile and is well-suited for short-to-medium-term storage. Under optimized conditions in ventilated facilities, the bulbs retain their integrity for 4–5 months post-harvest. This storage window offers growers flexibility in supply chain management, allowing for market distribution throughout the early winter months without sacrificing structural quality or culinary value.
