Description MACALU
Macalu is an early-day winter onion variety intended for cultivation as a one-year crop from seeds with autumn sowing. This variety is characterized by high yield and good winter hardiness, which allows its use for early spring sowings via seedlings. The vegetative period is about 245 days, making it suitable for May harvest realization.

Macalu bulbs have a wide-elliptical shape and an average weight of about 70 grams. Dry scales are light brown, while juicy ones are white with a greenish tint. The onion has a thin neck and a semi-sharp taste. Bulb maturation before harvest reaches 87%, and after after-ripening 99%, ensuring high quality and market appearance. Marketable yield is about 133 centners per hectare, corresponding to the Radar standard level.

Macalu is adapted to various climatic conditions, including hot and dry periods with mandatory irrigation. The optimal temperature for bulb formation is 20-28 degrees. The onion forms a large rosette with raised leaves, and white bulbs have a compact round shape and weigh from 1 to 1.5 kg. The variety is also tolerant of major diseases, which eases care and increases crop resilience.
