Onion Grandina

Professional Grade Red Onion from Ukraine

Grandina is a mid-late maturing onion variety developed by the Chernihiv Institute of Agricultural Production (NAAS). It has carved out a solid reputation in the agricultural sector as a high-performance crop with a vegetation period of 120–130 days. It is widely recognized for its impressive yield potential, which can exceed 100 tons per hectare under optimal growing conditions.

Market Positioning and Culinary Use

Featuring a uniform, rounded shape and a vibrant purple-red skin, Grandina is a classic salad-type onion. Each bulb typically weighs between 180 and 200 grams, meeting the aesthetic and size requirements of modern retail chains. Due to its balanced flavor profile—characterized by a pleasant, mild pungency—it is favored for fresh consumption and gourmet culinary applications.

Storage and Logistics

One of the primary reasons for Grandina’s market success is its exceptional storage capability. The variety maintains its commercial quality for 9 to 10 months, providing farmers with a strategic advantage in supply chain planning and seasonal sales. The bulb's firm skin layer ensures durability during mechanized harvesting and transportation, minimizing losses and maximizing the return on investment for large-scale agricultural enterprises.
