Onion Excel

Practical Insights on Growing "Excel"

For agricultural operators focusing on large-scale production, the "Excel" variety, originated by Dmitriy Chekhonadskiy, represents a reliable asset for mechanized harvesting. With a long growth cycle of 260–270 days, it requires disciplined water management and pest control, but the payoff is a crop with consistent physical properties that withstand industrial handling.

Efficiency in Harvesting and Processing

The round bulb shape is highly beneficial for machine settings, minimizing damage during harvesting. Because both the bulb and its skin are pure white, quality control on packing lines becomes significantly easier; any irregularities are spotted quickly by sensors or human sorters. The density of the bulb ensures that it remains intact through automated handling equipment, from field elevators to processing facility cutting machines.

Usage and Post-Harvest Performance

"Excel" is favored in the processing industry for its uniformity. When processed for salads or dehydrated products, the lack of pigmentation and stable internal structure result in higher yield and reduced waste. When kept in properly ventilated storage, the variety maintains its firmness over the long term, allowing for strategic marketing throughout the off-season.

• Designed for large-scale operations utilizing automated cleaning and packing lines.
• Optimized for mechanical harvesting, reducing the need for manual labor and decreasing loss rates.
• Versatile application, suitable for both the fresh salad market and industrial processing.
