Onion SV4058NU

Premium White Onion for the Restaurant Segment

When selecting seeds for professional white onion cultivation, the SV4058NY variety from the American giant Monsanto stands out from competitors due to its specialized profile. This is not a "jack-of-all-trades" for mass market retail, but a premium product designed for HoReCa and high-end supermarkets where aesthetic appearance and flavor profile are paramount.

Agronomic Advantages

The main challenge for white onion producers is their lower resistance to soil-borne diseases compared to yellow or red counterparts. Monsanto’s breeders addressed this by embedding genetic resistance to Fusarium wilt into the SV4058NY. This significantly lowers yield losses in fields with high pathogen pressure and reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications.

• Appearance: The perfectly round shape of the bulb simplifies mechanized processing and packing. The crisp, clean white color of both the scales and the flesh is a key marketability marker.
• Flavor Profile: Positioned for the salad market, this variety features a lower concentration of essential oils, resulting in a mild taste without harsh bitterness, making it ideal for fresh salads.

Who should choose SV4058NY?

This variety is optimal for farmers aiming for a precise balance between yield and market presentation. Unlike standard varieties that often produce inconsistent bulbs, SV4058NY delivers uniform batches, reducing post-harvest sorting costs. Its only challenge is the requirement for strict irrigation management to prevent the outer scales from cracking. When managed correctly, SV4058NY proves to be a powerful asset for maximizing margins within the premium onion market.
