Onion GOLD STANDARD

Focus on Pathogen Resistance

The «Zolotoy Standart» onion variety, developed by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Production, is engineered for resilience in high-infection environments. The primary benefit for commercial growers is its robust resistance to pink rot, fusarium, and various soft rots. This makes it an ideal choice for fields with a history of soil-borne pathogens, effectively reducing crop losses during the growing season.

Production Cycles and Field Handling

With a maturity period of 120–130 days, this mid-late variety requires a consistent irrigation schedule and balanced nutrition. The round, white bulbs are physically adapted for automated harvesting equipment, minimizing skin damage which is crucial for maintaining post-harvest quality. The uniform shape simplifies sorting and packaging processes in mechanized packing lines.

Post-Harvest Strategy

A storage duration of 4–5 months provides growers with strategic flexibility. It allows producers to bypass the peak harvest supply glut and aim for late-autumn or winter market windows. The variety is well-suited for both fresh market retail and culinary processing, where the clean white color and disease resistance ensure high quality throughout the storage life in climate-controlled facilities.
