Camus leek is a medium-early variety with a tall and thick stem, the white part of which can reach up to 50 cm. This variety is characterized by high yield and excellent taste qualities, making it a popular choice for summer-autumn cultivation. The leaves are bluish-grey and persist until late autumn, when other varieties have already lost their greenery.
For growing Camus, the seedling method is recommended. Seedlings aged 50-60 days are planted in the second decade of May at a depth of 3-4 cm, with a distance between plants of 15-20 cm and between rows of 25-30 cm. Leeks grow well on loamy, highly humus-rich floodplain soils with a neutral reaction. To form a fleshy stem fruit, hilling and feeding with nitrogen-potassium fertilizers during the growing period are necessary.
Harvest for winter storage is conducted in late October, and in more northern regions — in late September or early October. To preserve the leeks during winter, it is recommended to store them in moist and cool conditions. Seed production is carried out in the Czech Republic.
