The mustard variety «Czarivna Pivnochi» is black mustard obtained through hybridization and individual-family selection. Plant height ranges from 115 to 140 cm, the stem has a diameter of 7–9 mm and bears 6–7 first-order branches. The fruit is a pod 2–3.5 cm long containing 2–4 round seeds of light brown color. The mass of 1000 seeds is 3.0–4.0 g.
Mustard «Czarivna Pivnochi» is grown for food oil and meal production for mustard flour. It shows medium resistance to pests and diseases, as well as resistance to lodging and medium resistance to seed shattering. Seed yield is about 25.0 c/ga, and erucic acid content in oil is up to 15.6 μmol/g.
Growing conditions in the Northern forest-steppe of Ukraine showed that maximum yield and seed quality are achieved with an optimal level of nitrogen fertilizers and additional application of the Florone preparation. At the highest doses of phosphorus-potassium fertilizers (P60K90) and foliar feeding, the yield of the «Czarivna Pivnochi» variety can reach 0.85 t/ga. Oil content in seeds is about 40% (average value 40.0±0.03%), and protein is 26.4%. These parameters make the variety ideal for producing mustard oil and high-quality flour.
