This variety was included in the State Register in 2016 and developed by specialists of FGBNU "Volga Research Institute for Breeding and Seed Production named after P.N. Konstantinov". POVOLZHSKOE 80 is characterized by a vegetation period from 69 to 107 days and plant height from 57 to 110 cm, which ensures optimal conditions for cultivation in the indicated regions.
The variety is distinguished by high resistance to shattering, drought, and smut (races 1 and 2), which is confirmed by the absence of smut damage in field trials. Moreover, it is resistant to lodging, which contributes to yield preservation. The 1000-grain mass of POVOLZHSKOE 80 is high - from 8.4 to 9.7 grams, which is one of the important quality indicators. The average yield in the region is about 29.2 centners per hectare, while the maximum indicators reached 60.6 c/ha in the Republic of Mordovia.
In terms of technological and culinary properties, the variety POVOLZHSKOE 80 belongs to valuable quality types. The pedigree of the variety includes a hybrid population with participation of such varieties as Saratovskoe 6, Skorospeloe 66, Kinel'skoe skorospeloe, and Zaryana. The panicle of the plant is compact and moderately drooping, with anthocyanin coloring of the spikelet chaff of medium intensity and dark red coloring of the pericarp of the grain.
