Proso millet SVITANKOVE / SVITANKOVOE

Stability and Selection Standards

The «Svitankove» millet variety is a product of the breeding program conducted by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute of the NAAS. Developed by Ukrainian researchers, this variety has established itself firmly in the intensive farming segment, where the key requirement for the crop is not only yield, but also the predictability of field performance. «Svitankove» is preferred by farmers who prioritize risk mitigation against adverse weather conditions.

Agronomic Profile and Resilience

One of the primary characteristics that distinguishes this variety in the common millet range is its high lodging resistance. In the volatile climate of Ukraine, the stalk's ability to maintain a vertical position until harvest is a decisive factor for preserving grain quality. Furthermore, «Svitankove» possesses specific genetic protection — high resistance to smut (Ustilago), which allows for reduced fungicide applications and a lower chemical burden on the soil.

Field Reputation

Over years of cultivation, the variety has earned a reputation as a workhorse for farms oriented toward food-grade grain production. Consistent test weight and grain quality indices have made it highly sought after by processors. The originator, the Yuriev Institute, maintains rigorous seed production standards, ensuring the preservation of varietal traits at the elite and first-generation levels. Farmers value this millet for its technological efficiency: the variety responds well to soil fertility and adapts reliably to the typical soil and climatic conditions of its regional zoning.
