The Lolita melon variety is an ultra-early and uniform ripening variety that matures within 56-70 days from full germination. The fruits have a round shape and a bright yellow color with large orange spots, covered by a dense surface netting, which gives them an attractive appearance. The average fruit weight ranges from 1 to 2 kilograms. The flesh is light yellow or light cream, of medium thickness, juicy, melting, and tender, possessing an excellent taste and a high content of dry soluble substances up to 14-15%.
The variety is characterized by good transportability and storability, which is a significant advantage for early-ripening melons. For cultivation, it is recommended to sow seeds in March-April for seedlings or in May-June in open ground. Before sowing, seeds should be treated with a potassium permanganate solution and rinsed with clean water. Seedlings are transplanted at the stage of 3-4 true leaves after the threat of frost has passed, following a planting scheme of 100 x 100 cm.
Care for the plants includes single-stem formation with removal of side shoots and leaving 2-3 fruits, moderate watering, soil loosening, and fertilization. The Lolita variety belongs to the cucurbit family (Cucurbitaceae) and the Cucumis melo species, bred in Russia. Due to its characteristics, this variety is an excellent choice for those who value an early harvest of juicy and tasty melons with good consumer qualities.
