The Duna melon variety is an early-maturing climbing plant, with the period from germination to the first harvest ranging from 58 to 75 days. This variety is suitable for growing both in polyethylene greenhouses and in open ground. The fruits have an oval shape, yellow color with a dense continuous net pattern. The fruit mass varies from 1.3 to 4.5 kg, depending on growing conditions. The flesh is light cream, thick, granular, dense, tender, and very juicy, possessing a bright melon aroma and excellent taste, which makes this variety particularly attractive to consumers.
For successful cultivation, it is recommended to sow for seedlings in April or late April, and transplanting seedlings is carried out in late May to early June, when the plants reach an age of 30-35 days. The planting scheme is 70x150 cm. During growth up to a height of 50 cm, all side shoots must be removed, and subsequent ones pinched above 1-3 leaves. Plants are tied to trellises for ease of care and vine formation. During the fruiting period, watering is reduced to accumulate sugar in the fruits, but overall watering should be moderate, especially during the ripening period.
The Duna variety is characterized by good yield, which, with proper care, can reach from 1.5 to 3.9 kg per square meter or up to 40 tons per hectare with irrigation. The fruits are well transported, which allows preserving their quality during transit and marketing. Thanks to their taste qualities and aroma, as well as the ability to quench thirst and soothe the nervous system, Duna melon is an excellent choice for growing for both commercial purposes and personal consumption.
