Lucerne variety Sinska is a medium-maturing, tall perennial forage species with high forage and seed productivity. This variety belongs to the species M. varia, Martyn and is characterized by winter hardiness as well as good adaptability. In spring and after mowing, lucerne quickly regrows, forming upright rosettes and bushes with moderate leafiness. Seeds of this variety are yellow, and pods are brown. The green mass yield reaches 463-680 c/ha, dry matter — 103-147 c/ha, and seeds — 3.9-5.9 c/ha. The variety is registered in the State Register of Varieties of Ukraine, confirming its quality and suitability for agricultural use.
Lucerne is a popular perennial leguminous forage crop with high nutritional value. One kilogram of lucerne hay contains 0.48 feeding units and 103 grams of digestible protein, which nutritionally equals one kilogram of oats when consuming two kilograms of hay. Protein content in lucerne green mass varies from 15 to 22% depending on growth stage, while fiber content ranges from 25 to 39% on a dry matter basis. Due to its ability to regrow quickly after cutting and utilize moisture from deeper soil layers, lucerne provides prolonged supply of green feed for livestock. With proper care, the crop can yield 2-3 cuts during the growing season, and up to 4-5 cuts on irrigated and fertile sites.
