Alfalfa Unitro

Engineering Parameters of the 'Unitro' Alfalfa Cultivar

Developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of NAAS (Ukraine), 'Unitro' is a selection product engineered for high conversion of soil nutrients into vegetative biomass. With a plant height of 85–95 cm, the cultivar offers a balanced architecture between vegetative mass and reproductive organs, which is essential for consistent forage production.

Technical Breakdown

• Structural Morphology: The 85–95 cm height range ensures an optimal distribution of leaf surface area, maximizing the capture of photosynthetically active radiation even in high-density stands.
• Regeneration Dynamics: 'Unitro' is characterized by rapid regrowth post-harvest. This efficiency allows farmers to shorten the interval between cuttings, directly increasing the total number of harvests per season.
• Leaf-to-Stem Ratio: High foliage density ensures a superior crude protein content. Technologically, this minimizes losses during drying and ensiling, as the nutrient-dense leaves remain securely attached to the stems.

The practical value of 'Unitro' lies in its specific adaptation to Ukrainian soil and climatic conditions. By leveraging the genetic potential of domestic selection, the cultivar mitigates risks associated with moisture deficits during critical growth stages. 'Unitro' is designed for producers focusing on intensive forage management, aiming for high-energy fodder output.
