Local Slovan alfalfa is a perennial herbaceous plant from the legume family, possessing high feed value and important agronomic properties. The plant is characterized by upright stems up to 90 cm high, densely covered with elliptical leaflets. Flowers are small, blue-violet in color, gathered in racemes and bloom almost all summer. Fruits are spirally twisted pods, ripening in late August-early September. The alfalfa root system is deep and powerful, which promotes its stability and efficiency in various soil conditions.
The Local Slovan variety is distinguished by high adaptability and is used in agriculture as a valuable agronomic product. It contributes to a significant increase in soil fertility through nitrogen accumulation, which is equivalent to applying 40-50 tons of manure over 2-3 years. This improves conditions for growing vegetable crops and prevents secondary soil salinization on irrigated lands. Moreover, alfalfa crops reduce the incidence of wilt disease in cotton, making it an important component of crop rotation.
Local Slovan alfalfa provides high-protein feed rich in vitamins and mineral salts, necessary for the full nutrition of animals. With dense grass cover, it helps clear fields of weeds, which facilitates subsequent soil processing and increases yield. Thanks to its unique properties and resilience, this alfalfa variety is an indispensable component in livestock diets and agrotechnologies.
