Genetic Architecture and Protection

The "Taezhnaya" alfalfa variety is a product of breeding research conducted by the Siberian Federal Scientific Center of Agro-Biotechnologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (originators: O. A. Poznahareva, A. A. Kozlov). This variety was developed as a specialized solution for regions with challenging phytosanitary conditions. The core feature of its genetics is a pronounced tolerance to a complex of pathogens that typically limit alfalfa productivity in temperate climates.

Phytopathological Profile

• Bacterial Wilt: The variety demonstrates a high level of resistance to the wilt pathogen. This is critical for maintaining stand density during the 3rd and 4th years of production, when other varieties often experience significant die-off due to vascular system damage.
• Ascochyta Blight: Genetic resistance to fungal leaf spots ensures the foliage remains intact until mowing, providing a high protein concentration in the hay. The leaf surface remains photosynthetically active even under unfavorable weather conditions.

Morphological Parameters and Productivity

The plant’s biological model is characterized by a stem height ranging from 60 to 110 cm. This metric defines the optimal balance between leafiness and total biomass. From an agrotechnical standpoint, a stem height of up to 110 cm allows for mechanized mowing with minimal losses during windrow pick-up. The combination of these morphological traits makes "Taezhnaya" a reliable tool for establishing hayfields and pastures with a high yield of nutrients per hectare.
