Alfalfa Pestraya 57 is a perennial herbaceous crop from the legume family, widely used in agriculture as a forage and cover crop. It has a powerful root system, which ensures good water and nutrient absorption, as well as drought and winter hardiness. The alfalfa stems are branched, 50 to 150 cm tall, with trifoliate leaves and racemes of blue or light blue flowers. The fruits are multi-seeded pods with small seeds of yellow or light brown color. In addition to its forage purpose, Alfalfa Pestraya 57 plays an important role in improving soil fertility. It enriches the soil with nitrogen due to symbiosis with root nodule bacteria, which allows significantly increasing the yield of subsequent crops. In the 2nd-3rd year of life, the plants can accumulate in the soil an amount of nitrogen equivalent to 40-60 tons of manure. With a dense sward, alfalfa helps clear fields of weeds and is an excellent predecessor for cereals and other agricultural crops. The effect of its use persists for several years, making it indispensable in crop rotations and in the recovery of exhausted soils.
For successful cultivation of Alfalfa Pestraya 57, it is recommended to sow seeds in well-prepared soil with a sowing depth of 2-3 cm in moist soil and 3-4 cm in dry soil. The sowing rate is 15-20 kg per hectare for pure stands and 6-8 kg per hectare in mixtures with other grasses. Before sowing, the seeds are preferably prepared: remove the outer shell or rub with sand, soak in water, and treat with pesticides to improve germination. The soil should be thoroughly processed, cleaned of weeds, and fertilized with organic and mineral fertilizers. Thanks to its hardiness and ability to improve soil composition, Alfalfa Pestraya 57 is an effective and economical solution for feed production and increasing land fertility.
