Alfalfa Occitane

French Breeding for High-Performance Forage Production

The «Oxitan» alfalfa variety by Maisadour Semences is the culmination of long-term French breeding efforts aimed at creating a crop that balances vigorous growth with exceptional pathogen resistance. In today’s agricultural market, where the cost-efficiency of forage is paramount, this variety serves as a robust solution for farms focused on long-term field exploitation.

Agronomic Profile and Disease Resistance

The standout feature of Oxitan is its high genetic immunity. The plant shows reliable resistance to the most destructive diseases that affect alfalfa crops:

• Anthracnose;
• Verticillium wilt;
• Fusarium wilt.

This protection ensures sustained crop density over several years, which is critical for maximizing yields per harvest. With a plant height of 80–100 cm during the vegetation phase, it provides an ideal balance between biomass production and ease of mechanized harvesting.

Practical Application and Efficiency

Oxitan is optimized for intensive agricultural systems. Its rapid regrowth following each cut allows for shorter intervals between harvests without stressing the root system. This makes it an ideal candidate for both high-quality hay production and silage. Maisadour Semences has focused on the nutritional profile of this variety, ensuring excellent leafiness and high protein content, which are essential for creating balanced livestock diets and maintaining high animal productivity.
