Description

Viburnum 'Pavlovskaya' is a medium-sized shrub with a compact, wide conical crown, reaching a height of about 1.5 m. The bush develops thick, straight shoots and large light-green or yellowish-green leaves, which are elongated-oval with a rounded tip.

The fruits are characterized as large (about 1.2 g) dark-blue berries in the shape of an elongated oval. The skin is smooth and dense, covered with a moderate waxy bloom; the inner pulp is fibrous. Additionally, the fruits have low drop loss, allowing the harvest to remain on the branches even after full ripening. The taste is sour-sweet with a slight bitterness, indicating a high vitamin C content (≈69% of the daily norm). The aroma is weak.

'Pavlovskaya' is a self-sterile variety, but to maximize yield, it is recommended to grow pollinators nearby – varieties 'Blue Bird', 'Blue Spindle', and 'Tomichka', which bloom at the same time. Flowering begins in early May, and the fruit ripens in the third decade of June, making the variety mid-season. The yield is about 23 centners of berries per hectare.

The culture is distinguished by its high commercial quality and transportability: the berries are easily transported over long distances without losing quality. They are suitable both for fresh consumption and for processing into various confectionery products, compotes, jams, and juices. The plant is unpretentious, almost not affected by diseases and pests, grows quickly and requires minimal effort from the gardener. Thanks to these characteristics, 'Pavlovskaya' is widely used in the regions of the Northern, Central, Urals, Siberian, and Far Eastern zones.
