Daylily Happy Gnome

Maintenance and Growth Characteristics

"Veselyi Hnom" (Merry Gnome) is a daylily variety developed by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden, specifically tailored for the local climate. For the gardener, this means a low-maintenance, reliable perennial that performs consistently without requiring extensive management.

The key to successful operation of this variety is site selection. "Veselyi Hnom" is a sun-loving plant. It reaches its peak decorative performance only when provided with direct, unobstructed sunlight. Planting it in shaded areas is counterproductive; the stems become prone to weak growth, and the bloom count drops significantly, which might eventually force you to provide mechanical support to the plant.

Landscape Management

• Planting Strategy: Its compact size makes it a perfect candidate for border plantings and front-line flower bed arrangements. You can plant it in tighter clusters to achieve a solid color impact without the risk of overcrowding.
• Routine Care: Maintenance is straightforward. Once the flowering phase concludes, simply prune the stalks and remove dried foliage. This cultivar is highly resilient to local winters, meaning no special winterization protocols are needed.
• Resource Efficiency: This variety is drought-tolerant. While moderate irrigation during peak heat enhances flower pigment saturation, the plant remains aesthetically sound even with minimal water input. It is an excellent choice for those looking to reduce fertilizer and water usage in their gardens.

Choosing this variety means investing in a proven, high-performance plant that balances aesthetic appeal with operational ease.
