Breeding Profile and Genetics

The 'Krymskiy Barkhat' (Crimean Velvet) daylily is a product of the breeding program developed by the Nikitsky Botanical Gardens (NBS-NNTS RAS). This hybrid underwent long-term adaptation within the Southern Coast of Crimea, which results in superior resilience against specific climatic stressors: alternating arid periods and high insolation. Unlike many imported cultivars, 'Krymskiy Barkhat' is specifically optimized for regional light regimes.

Light Requirements and Photosynthetic Activity

The efficiency of the decorative display depends directly on the balance of insolation. Technical recommendations for cultivation are based on two scenarios:

• Full Sun: Ensures maximum saturation of the petal pigmentation. The genetically determined density of the velvety texture requires high-intensity photosynthesis to maintain turgor and depth of color.
• Partial Shade: Recommended for extending the flowering period. This is optimal under high-temperature conditions to prevent thermal stress on plant tissues and premature bud wilting.
