Common lilac – a popular shrub widely used in landscape design due to its hardiness and resistance to urban conditions. The plant reaches a height of two to eight meters, has a multi-stemmed structure with light-brown bark on the trunk and smooth green bark on young shoots. Lilac leaves are heart-shaped, bright green, four to twelve centimeters long, arranged oppositely, and remain on the plant until late autumn, falling while still green.
Flowering begins in late spring and lasts about twenty days. Lilac inflorescences are large panicles ten to twenty centimeters long, consisting of numerous flowers that can be lilac, lavender, or white in color. Each shoot ends with one or two large buds, while side buds are smaller. The flowers have a pleasant and exquisite aroma.
Common lilac is distinguished by high frost resistance – it winters without freezing over the entire territory of Ukraine, as well as drought resistance and soil indifference. The root system grows strongly, ensuring firm anchorage of the plant in the soil. Lilac fruits are pods with several winged seeds of light-brown color. Thanks to all these characteristics, the plant is an ideal choice for greening urban parks, squares, and residential areas.
