Lilac Ivan Mazepa

The Pride of Ukrainian Breeding: Lilac 'Ivan Mazepa'

The 'Ivan Mazepa' lilac variety is the result of long-term breeding work by specialists at the M. M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Its official registration in 2026 marks a significant milestone in the development of Ukrainian ornamental horticulture. This variety was developed specifically for the country's agro-climatic conditions, making it an optimal choice for landscaping in the Forest-Steppe and Polissya zones.

Botanical Profile

The plant is a tall shrub with a broad-pyramidal crown, giving it a majestic and structured appearance. A characteristic feature of the variety is the intense green color of its ovate leaves with a cordate base. During the flowering period, the bush is covered with numerous broad-pyramidal panicles, with buds displaying a distinct red-purple hue.

Agrotechnical Features

• Adaptability: The variety is zoned for cultivation in the Forest-Steppe and Polissya regions, demonstrating high resilience to local climatic factors.
• Morphology: A medium degree of branching and upright generative shoots ensure the plant maintains a neat silhouette even without intensive pruning.
• Ornamental Value: Due to its mid-season flowering and dense inflorescences, 'Ivan Mazepa' serves as a striking focal point in landscape design for both public parks and private gardens.

Choosing this variety is not only an investment in the aesthetics of your space but also a way to support the national breeding school, which continues the tradition of creating unique ornamental crops perfectly adapted to Ukrainian soils and weather conditions.
