Lettuce BATTLESTAR

A Strategic Choice for the "Little Gem" Market Segment

For producers specializing in mini-lettuce, maintaining shelf appeal during transit and resisting physiological defects during intensive cultivation are constant hurdles. The Battlestar hybrid from Enza Limited is a sophisticated solution for growers prioritizing visual consistency and predictable yields.

Agrotechnological Edge

Battlestar is characterized by its intense red foliage, which maintains deep saturation even under varying light conditions. As a "Little Gem" type, it features a compact rosette with a dense leaf structure, essential for streamlined packaging and shelf presentation. Breeders at Enza Zaden have placed a high premium on biological resilience: resistance to internal tip burn (internal necrosis) makes this hybrid a secure investment for farms operating under high-intensity cycles, where even minor internal tissue decay can compromise an entire harvest.

Field Application and Market Integration

• High-Density Cultivation: Its compact size allows for optimized plant spacing, making it an excellent fit for hydroponic setups and greenhouse production.
• Extended Shelf Life: Resistance to necrosis ensures the final product remains fresh longer on supermarket shelves, reducing waste compared to standard varieties.
• Retail Appeal: The vibrant color and uniform shape are perfectly suited for "healthy snacking" trends and premium ready-to-eat salad mixes, facilitating easier access to major retail contracts.

By choosing Battlestar, agronomists effectively mitigate the risks of "hidden defects" that often lead to supplier rejections. It is the ideal tool for growers shifting from bulk production toward premium market segments that demand pristine visual standards and consistent quality.
