Pijon

Pijon lettuce — an early semi-head variety, characterized by high yield and resistance to bolting and low temperatures. From germination to harvest readiness, it takes 40–45 days. Heads are medium-sized, round, weighing 250–350 grams. The lettuce leaves are ruffled, round, reddish-bronze in color, giving the plant an attractive appearance and making it especially valuable for fresh consumption.

For growing Pijon lettuce, it is recommended to sow seeds as early as possible to obtain an early harvest. To ensure a continuous supply of produce, multiple sowings with intervals of 7–10 days are advised. Seeds are sown in rows or double rows with row spacing of 45–60 cm and plant spacing of 25–35 cm. At the 4–5 leaf stage, thinning is performed, leaving plants spaced 15–20 cm apart. Regular watering and soil loosening are essential, especially during head formation, to promote healthy, succulent green growth.

Harvesting of Pijon lettuce begins when heads reach a diameter of at least 5–6 cm. This variety is valued for its long harvest period and high vitamin content in its leaves, making it both nutritious and flavorful for fresh consumption. The average yield of this variety is 30–40 tons per hectare, confirming its high productivity and economic attractiveness for cultivation.
