Lollo Fan leaf lettuce is an early-maturing variety, with its marketable maturity beginning 37-40 days after germination. The plant forms a large rosette of beautiful, lace-like, and crisp leaves with intense anthocyanin coloration and a bubbly surface. At full development, the rosette reaches a mass of 300-340 grams, a height of 20-23 cm, and a diameter of about 40 cm. The leaves are large, strongly ruffled at the edges, and possess a pleasant taste with nutty notes. This variety is characterized by high levels of folic acid, calcium, iodine, and other natural antioxidants, making it particularly beneficial.
Lollo Fan is resistant to bolting, which allows it to be used for a long time without loss of quality. The yield of the variety is about 4 kg per square meter. For cultivation, seeds are sown in open ground at a depth of 1-2 cm, preferably in early April, in wide rows with 60-70 cm spacing between rows. After germination, thinning is performed twice, leaving a distance of 15-20 cm between plants. Plants require regular watering, loosening, and fertilization; watering is recommended along the furrows, avoiding water contact with the leaves.
For successful cultivation of Lollo Fan, proper soil preparation is important: in autumn, plowing or digging is performed with the addition of compost, while acidic soils require liming. In spring, mineral fertilizers are added. The best predecessors for this lettuce are cabbage and potatoes, under which organic fertilizers were added. Due to its decorative appeal, resistance to bolting, and high leaf quality, Lollo Fan is an excellent choice for cultivation for both personal and commercial purposes.
