Lettuce Jokary

Technical Profile of the "Yokari" Hybrid

Dutch breeding from Enza Limited sets high benchmarks in the leaf lettuce segment, and "Yokari" is a prime example of a specialized approach to cultivation. This early-maturing hybrid is engineered for the professional market, where the combination of rapid cycle turnover and disease resistance is critical.

Phytopathological Protection

A key feature of "Yokari" is its integrated genetic resistance to powdery mildew. In greenhouse conditions or intensive vegetable farming, this technical solution reduces the need for fungicide applications, which is essential for the sustainability and safety of commercial produce. The plant demonstrates high capability in suppressing pathogen development during early vegetative stages, preventing premature leaf necrosis.

Morphology and Marketability

• Plant Type: Leaf lettuce forming a dense, well-balanced rosette.
• Color Profile: Saturated green pigment that remains stable even under high-temperature stress.
• Mass and Yield: The average weight of the rosette allows for standardized packaging, ensuring consistent marketable yield per square meter.

The early maturity of "Yokari" makes it an efficient tool for conveyor-style production systems. Due to its compact yet productive rosette, the hybrid withstands transportation well without losing turgor, provided temperature regimes are maintained—a common challenge for most leaf lettuce varieties.
