Description Chaika
The potato variety 'Chayka' is a medium-late table variety characterized by high yield and good storability. Plants of this variety have medium or high growth, semi-erect bush type with medium or large green leaves with wavy edges. Tubers are oval-round in shape with smooth yellow skin and light-yellow flesh, weighing from 70 to 125 grams. Starch content in tubers ranges from 12 to 15.3%, making this variety suitable for preparing various dishes, including boiled and fried potato products. The taste of tubers is rated as good to excellent, confirming the high consumer quality of the variety.

The 'Chayka' variety is characterized by high commercial yield, ranging from 242 to 414 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching 454 centners per hectare. The number of tubers per plant varies from 6 to 11. Tubers have a storability of 92%, ensuring good preservation of the harvest during storage. The maturity period of the variety is 110-120 days, allowing planting in May and harvesting at the beginning of September.

The variety is resistant to potato cancer pathogen and viral diseases, but requires protection against late blight, to which it is moderately susceptible in foliage and tubers. It is also susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode and may be affected by late blight in certain years. Due to its characteristics and resistance to several diseases, 'Chayka' potato is suitable for cultivation in various regions of Russia, as well as in Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova.
