Hop Zagrava

Versatility for Modern Hop Farming

The “Zahrava” variety, developed by the Institute of Hop Growing of the UAAS, is a staple choice for Ukrainian producers who prioritize operational efficiency. As a dual-purpose variety, it offers farmers a strategic advantage: instead of juggling multiple specialized crops, they can supply brewers with a versatile ingredient suitable for both crisp lagers and aromatic ales. This simplifies harvest logistics and inventory management.

Resilience and Cultivation

For farm agronomists, the most compelling reason to include Zahrava in the rotation is its genetic resistance to Verticillium wilt. This trait significantly de-risks the production process, leading to more predictable yields and reducing the reliance on aggressive chemical soil treatments. The variety is fully acclimated to local conditions, ensuring reliable development and ease of harvest on standard trellising systems.

Brewing Profile and Technical Specs

• Alpha Acid content: 6–8%. This range provides a balanced, clean bitterness that satisfies the requirements for standard lagers while leaving enough room for character in ales.
• Aroma Profile: A sophisticated blend of herbal notes and fruity undertones, making it a valuable tool for late-stage hopping when complex aromatics are desired.

Practical application: Zahrava is the go-to for producers looking to secure steady contracts with craft breweries. Its reliability in the brew house—whether used as a bittering agent or for late-kettle additions—makes it a consistent, high-demand asset in the current market.
