Hippeastrum Kazachok

Caucasus Breeding Legacy

The Hippeastrum cultivar 'Kazachok' represents a unique example of adaptive breeding conducted by specialists at the Federal Research Center “Subtropical Scientific Center of the RAS”. This variety is a product of long-term work by the Sochi school of floriculture, where the primary focus was on creating plants capable of thriving in open-ground conditions within subtropical zones.

Cultivation Specifics and Potential

Unlike most imported hybrids accustomed to greenhouse environments, 'Kazachok' was originally designed as an open-ground crop. This significantly expands its application in landscape design across southern regions. The plant demonstrates:

• High resistance to sharp temperature fluctuations typical of foothill areas.
• Adaptability to local soil types, reducing the need for intensive fertilization.
• Unique inflorescence morphology that maintains its aesthetic appeal even after exposure to precipitation.

For professional growers, 'Kazachok' is primarily valued for its low-maintenance nature and consistent blooming. It successfully completes its vegetation cycle in southern climates, forming sturdy flower stalks. From a market perspective, it is a localized yet highly viable product that is steadily filling the import substitution niche within the market of perennial garden bulbs.

Scientific Foundation

The variety status is confirmed by the originator, the Subtropical Scientific Center of the RAS. This ensures varietal purity and predictable bulb development. Choosing planting material of this hybrid supports a breeding base that has been preserving a unique genetic fund of ornamental crops in subtropical conditions for decades.
