Sangiovese is a wine grape variety widely spread in Italy and known for its medium ripening period. The bushes of this variety are medium-sized with perfect flowers, while the bunches are of medium size and conical shape, often dense. The berries are medium-sized, purple with a bluish bloom, and contain uncolored juice. The variety adapts well to various soils and differs in medium yield. In northern regions, such as northern Ukraine, Sangiovese can accumulate sugar content up to 20-21 Brix, making it suitable for cultivation in more southern plots with good solar exposure.
This variety is the basis for producing famous Italian red wines such as Chianti, Brunello, and Tignanello. Wines made from Sangiovese are characterized by spicy aromas with notes of cherry, plum, and prune. They often require aging to reveal their full bouquet and reach peak taste qualities. Due to their aging ability, wines from this variety are prized by collectors and lovers of quality red wine.
Sangiovese is represented by a large number of clones, among which one of the best stands out – the Brunello clone. For planting, both own-rooted and grafted seedlings are available, which allows adapting the variety to various growing conditions. This grape is the pride of any winemaking collection due to its unique taste and aroma, as well as versatility in producing high-quality wines.
