Riton grape is a mid-late technical variety of Moldovan selection, obtained by crossing the Villard blanc and Riesling varieties. Bushes of this variety are vigorous, forming medium or large clusters weighing from 200 grams and more, with berries of medium size, round shape, and white color. The flesh of the berries is juicy, with a harmonious taste, in which pleasant fruity notes are present and a high sugar content. The yield of the variety is from 130 to 150 centners per hectare, which makes it a very productive choice for viticulturists. The Riton variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness, withstanding frost down to -27°C, which allows it to be grown in an uncovered culture. At the same time, it has medium resistance to various diseases: high resistance to mildew with a maximum damage score of 2.0-2.5, medium resistance to powdery mildew (3.0-3.5 points) and gray rot affects it at the level of 3.5-4.0 points. Comprehensive protection against powdery mildew and gray rot is required for successful cultivation. Bushes form medium- and high-cordon cordons with 2-4 arms, the load on the bush is 60-80 buds, and pruning is 4-6 buds. Riton is well compatible with the most common rootstocks, which facilitates its adaptation and cultivation in various conditions. Despite weak resistance to phylloxera, the variety is popular due to its high productivity, excellent taste qualities, and frost resistance. This grape is suitable for cultivation in regions with a temperate climate and can be used both for technical purposes and for obtaining quality wine material.
