Grape Merlot Khorus

Innovation from Italian Laboratories

"Merlo Horus" is the result of extensive research by the Italian Institute of Applied Genomics (Istituto di Genomica Applicata). Unlike traditional clones, this variety is the product of targeted breeding aimed at enhancing the vine's resistance to key pathogens without compromising the organoleptic properties inherent to classic Merlot.

The Path to Ukrainian Vineyards

The official registration of the variety in Ukraine took place in 2026. The inclusion of "Merlo Horus" in the state register opens new opportunities for domestic winemakers aiming to implement resistant varieties (PIWI) that require minimal chemical intervention. This is a strategically important step for the greening of viticulture in the face of a changing climate.

Technological Potential

• Breeding Breakthrough: The use of genomic analysis methods significantly reduced the time required to develop a variety with specific immunity traits.
• Adaptability: The variety demonstrates high stability when grown in various soil and climatic zones, as confirmed by pre-registration trial results.
• Winemaking Profile: "Merlo Horus" maintains the recognizable profile of classic Merlot while offering more predictable fermentation results due to the high purity of its genetic material.

Today, this hybrid occupies a niche of high-tech planting material, aimed at professional farms that prioritize long-term profitability and reduced pesticide impact on the soil.
