Grape SORELI

Agrotechnics and Cultivation of Soreli Grape

The Italian grape variety Soreli, developed by the Institute of Applied Genomics (IGA), represents a significant advancement in viticulture, particularly regarding disease resistance. Officially registered in Ukraine in 2026, this variety offers growers a robust option for sustainable vineyard management.

Planting and Site Selection

Success with Soreli begins with site selection. The variety thrives in well-drained, loamy, or sandy soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Planting should take place in the spring once soil temperatures reach 10–12°C. To ensure optimal canopy ventilation and light penetration, a planting density of 2.5–3 meters between rows and 1.2–1.5 meters between vines is recommended.

Seasonal Care and Management

• Early Growth Phase: Adequate soil moisture is critical during bud break. Supplemental irrigation is advised during dry spring periods to encourage vigorous shoot development.
• Flowering Stage: Nitrogen application should be moderated during this phase to prevent excessive vegetative growth and ensure proper fruit set. Timely shoot thinning is essential for nutrient distribution.
• Ripening Phase: Soreli is noted for its high resistance to downy and powdery mildew, significantly reducing the need for chemical interventions. However, cluster thinning is vital to balance the vine load and ensure the grapes reach their full sugar potential.

Pruning strategies for Soreli typically involve cane or cordon systems, utilizing medium to long pruning techniques. Consistent vine training and canopy management are key to maintaining plant health and maximizing yield quality throughout the growing season.
