The Capitani Yani Kara grape variety belongs to Eastern wine varieties and is autochthonous to the Crimea region. This variety is characterized by large cylindrical-conical clusters with a dense structure. The berries are oval in shape, black in color, covered with a thick waxy bloom, have medium skin thickness, and juicy pulp. The berry taste is simple, moderately sweet, with a harmonious nuance, making this grape suitable for producing vintage dessert wines. The juice sugar content reaches 19-20 g per 100 cm³, while acidity is 5-6 g per dm³.
The ripening period of the variety falls in late September, usually in the second decade of the month. The grapes tolerate periodic droughts well and are resistant to fungal diseases and grape leafroller, which facilitates their cultivation. The leaves are of medium size, rounded with three to five lobes, and the flowers are perfect, which promotes good pollination and crop formation.
The grapevines possess great growth vigor, and clusters can reach a mass of 600-800 grams. The berries are not prone to cracking or damage by wasps, which allows for long-term storage of the harvest on the bushes without loss of market quality. The berry pulp is fleshy and juicy, and the taste acquires a light muscat aroma upon ripening. The variety is distinguished by high yield and frost resistance up to -24 °C, which makes it attractive for cultivation in various climatic conditions.
