Goat's rue Lydia

Long-term Productivity and Bee Forage

The 'Lydia' goat's rue (Galega) variety, developed by the Nikitsky Botanical Garden, is a specialized solution for farmers seeking both high-protein forage and a reliable nectar source for apiaries. Unlike wild varieties, 'Lydia' is bred for high biomass density and rapid regrowth, enabling up to two productive cuttings per season.

Agronomic Advantages

Reaching heights of 80–150 cm, this perennial herb forms a robust root system that excels in soil nitrogen fixation, effectively boosting soil fertility without synthetic input. Its remarkable drought resistance and winter hardiness make it a dependable asset in volatile climates. It is best suited for livestock operations focused on high-quality forage production, where both yield volume and nutrient preservation are paramount.

The Pollinator Benefit

As a premium melliferous plant, 'Lydia' stands out due to its extended flowering period. It provides a steady supply of nectar when other forage crops have already finished blooming, serving as a critical support for bee populations throughout the summer. The honey produced is highly regarded for its mild aroma and balanced texture.

• Key strengths: exceptional longevity (maintains high yields for over 10 years in one field), superior protein content, and soil-improving qualities.
• Growing tip: The seeds possess a hard coat; mechanical scarification is recommended before sowing to ensure uniform and rapid germination.
