Garlic DEMI DOV

Cultivation and Field Management

The 'Demidov' garlic is a winter-hardy, bolting variety that offers consistent performance for commercial growers. From an operational perspective, its success relies on standard maintenance—specifically the timely removal of scapes. This practice ensures that energy is redirected into bulb development, resulting in a target bulb weight of 60–80 grams. It is a reliable performer, showing consistent yield metrics of 1.5–2.0 kg/m².

Harvest and Logistics

With a maturity period of 100–110 days, 'Demidov' fits neatly into most crop rotation schedules. The bulbs are visually distinct, characterized by their purple-striped skin, which provides an attractive appearance for fresh market retail. The variety is robust and easy to handle during the harvesting process, reducing mechanical damage during collection.

Storage and Marketability

The standout feature for any operator is the shelf life, which ranges from 6 to 8 months. This extended storage capability is a major competitive advantage, allowing farmers to wait for optimal market conditions rather than liquidating stock immediately post-harvest. Whether intended for the fresh market or processing, the sharp, pungent flavor profile remains consistent, making it a reliable product to store and supply long-term.
