Ursus sugar beet is a medium-late, semi-sugar variety developed by the Polish seed company Malopolska Hodowla Roslin-HBP Sp. Z o.o. The vegetation period lasts about 140-145 days, enabling a stable yield under various agro-climatic conditions, including sandy soils of Ukraine. Ursus is characterized by its adaptability, good drought resistance, and positive response to fertilizer application, which promotes active root and leaf growth.
The roots of the Ursus variety have a cylindrical shape and yellow-orange color, with white flesh. The average weight of one root reaches 5-7 kg, with the root being approximately 40% buried in the soil. The root yield ranges from 1000 to 1300 centners per hectare, while the dry matter yield is 115-145 centners per hectare. The dry matter content in the roots reaches 14-15%, and the easily digestible protein content is about 7 grams per kilogram. The plant's leaves are also used for feed purposes, providing additional green mass of 290-360 kg per hectare.
The Ursus variety is widely used in animal feeding, including horses, cows, rabbits, goats, pigs, and poultry. Due to its high nutritional value and juiciness, beet improves the digestibility of dry feed and contributes to increased animal productivity. Additionally, Ursus can be stored until December, allowing its use over a prolonged period after harvest.
