The 'Skazka' currant variety is a vigorous shrub with a spreading and dense canopy, reaching a height of 150–160 cm. The stems are brownish-green, robust, and covered with green leaves. The berries are large, round in shape, with a glossy black skin, with an average weight ranging from 1.8 to 2.3 g, sometimes reaching 3 g. The fruits are characterized by a firm but not too thick skin and juicy flesh with a brownish hue. The taste of the berries is balanced, sour-sweet with wine notes, rated 8 out of 10. The berries retain freshness for a long time, have a dry pull, and contain a significant amount of vitamin C (up to 200 mg per 100 g), phenols, and pectins, making them beneficial and attractive to consumers.
The 'Skazka' variety is adapted to the climatic conditions of the forest-steppe, plesye, and the central regions of Russia, as well as suitable for cultivation in Ukraine and Belarus. It is characterized by good winter hardiness and immunity, which allows it to be grown without winter covering. The culture is undemanding regarding soil and location, tolerates shade and frost well, which expands planting possibilities. In steppe regions, additional watering and crown irrigation are recommended to ensure optimal growth and fruiting.
For successful cultivation of 'Skazka' currant, several-stage fertilization is recommended: the first fertilization with ammonium nitrate when buds open, the second — with a mixture of urea, superphosphate, and potassium sulfate in mid-June, the third — with superphosphate and potassium sulfate at the end of September to early October, as well as the application of well-rotted manure under the bushes in late October. The optimal time for planting is spring with warm loose soil, ensuring good rooting of seedlings. Thanks to its characteristics and undemanding nature, the 'Skazka' variety is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking to obtain large, tasty, and nutritious black currant berries.
