The 'Xenia' currant variety is the result of Swiss selection, certified in 1990. The bushes of this variety reach a height of 1 to 1.2 meters, have medium density and upright stems with minimal weak single thorns, which simplifies care and harvesting. Leaves are medium-sized, green and glossy, and flowering occurs in April with natural pollination. The variety is distinguished by early ripening: berries are ready for harvest by mid- to late June. The 'Xenia' currant berries are large, weighing from 6 to 14 grams, bright red-purple in color with a pinkish hue. Berries are spherical or slightly elongated, grow in clusters, and have juicy, sweet flesh with a tangy-sweet taste. The medium-thick skin ensures good transportability of the fruit, making this variety suitable for various uses, including fresh consumption and processing. The 'Xenia' variety is highly frost-resistant — tolerates temperatures down to -34...-35 °C, allowing cultivation in northern regions. Additionally, the currant is resistant to diseases and pests, requires minimal care, and grows well on various soil types without the need for fertilizers. Yield is 2-3 kg per two-year-old cane and up to 10 kg per bush, making this variety attractive for both hobby gardeners and commercial cultivation.
