Currant Evening Glory

Stable Performance and Market-Ready Berries

The 'Vechornytsia' black currant, developed by the Institute of Horticulture of the NAAS, is designed for growers who prioritize low-input farming without sacrificing yield. Its primary advantage is genetic resistance to anthracnose, septoria, and powdery mildew, which significantly reduces the need for frequent chemical sprays, making it a sustainable choice for high-quality production.

Agronomic Management and Harvesting

Reaching a height of 1.5 meters, this variety is well-adapted for standard orchard management practices. Yields of 4–5 kg per bush are achievable with consistent fertilization and proper pruning, which are essential for maintaining the bush's vitality and fruit size.

• Berry Characteristics: With a diameter of 1.3–1.8 cm, the berries are uniform in size and deep black in color. Their firm texture makes them excellent for both the fresh market and long-term freezing.
• Strategic Deployment: Ideal for small to mid-scale farms looking for a variety that handles environmental fluctuations well. It is highly responsive to drip irrigation, which is crucial for maximizing yield in dryer regions.
• Commercial Value: The combination of high yields and disease resistance makes this variety a low-risk investment for commercial plots, ensuring consistent annual returns.

Selecting 'Vechornytsia' means opting for a reliable, field-tested variety that minimizes the risk of crop loss due to common horticultural pests and pathogens, providing a straightforward pathway to high-quality berry production.
