Currant Nastenka

Practical Application of 'Nastenka' Red Currant

Developed by the Federal Research Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the 'Nastenka' currant is a cultivar engineered for robustness in challenging climates. For commercial growers, it represents a reliable asset for consistent production of high-quality market-ready berries.

Agricultural Performance and Management

• Post-Harvest Logistics: A defining feature of 'Nastenka' is its high berry firmness. This property ensures excellent transportability, allowing producers to ship across long distances without compromising the integrity of the produce—a vital advantage for supplying retail chains.
• Orchard Management: The medium-spreading habit of the bush is optimized for efficient orchard maintenance. It simplifies inter-row equipment access and enhances the efficiency of manual harvesting, ultimately reducing labor costs per hectare.
• Hardiness: Given its origin, the cultivar exhibits strong resilience against frost, effectively mitigating the risks of crop loss during severe winters or late spring frosts.

In a farm setting, 'Nastenka' functions as a dependable staple. Its predictable yields, ease of pruning due to its structural habit, and resistance to common berry crop pathogens make it a cost-effective choice for those looking to minimize chemical inputs while maintaining high post-harvest standards.
