Black currant 'Lastivka' is a result of long-term breeding efforts by the Institute of Horticulture of the NAAS of Ukraine. The variety has established itself in the early-maturing crop segment, offering gardeners an optimal balance between high productivity and low maintenance. Designed for temperate climates, this variety addresses the market demand for consistent yields without the need for constant fungicide treatments.

Productivity and morphology

The 'Lastivka' bush has a semi-spreading shape, which significantly facilitates plant care and harvesting. A key feature of this model is its precocity: the period from bud break to full maturity is just 40–45 days. Under intensive cultivation, one mature bush can produce between 5 and 7 kilograms of berries.

The berries are particularly notable for their size, with a diameter ranging from 3.6 to 5.0 cm. Their deep black color and firm skin make them suitable not only for fresh consumption but also for transportation, which is vital for commercial use in local markets.

Plant health

A primary reason for 'Lastivka's' popularity among farmers is its genetic resistance to a complex of diseases most dangerous to berry crops:

• Anthracnose — the variety is highly resistant to leaf damage.
• Septoria leaf spot — high threshold of resistance to fungal pathogens.
• Powdery mildew — a serious threat to black currant, which is mitigated by this variety's inherent immunity.
