Cucumber Poker

Working with the 'Poker' Cucumber

The 'Poker' cucumber is recognized by agronomists as a reliable bee-pollinated hybrid. It performs best in open-field conditions or glass greenhouses where insect pollination is facilitated. The plant exhibits a vigorous vegetative growth habit, which requires careful training and pruning to ensure energy is directed toward fruit production rather than excessive foliage.

Yield Management and Harvest Efficiency

Technical specifications for this hybrid are optimized for both fresh market demand and pickling industries. Key performance indicators include:

• Maturity: Ready for harvest in 45–50 days, allowing for precise scheduling.
• Fruit specs: 9–10 cm in length and approximately 100 grams, a standard size that fits well in commercial processing.
• Appearance: A deep, dark green skin with a fine-warted texture, ensuring high shelf appeal.

The fine-warted surface contributes to the fruit's structural integrity, reducing physical damage during handling and transport. Because the plant is highly vegetative, consistent irrigation and a balanced fertilization program are essential to sustain its high metabolic activity and prevent yield drops. Developed by Spojnia HNO and Alexey Shelobodkin, this hybrid is well-adapted to local soil and climate conditions, making it a manageable and predictable choice for both field operators and greenhouse managers.
