Description PROGRESS
Cucumber Progress — a high-yielding parthenocarpic hybrid developed by the Japanese company Takii. The plant is strongly growing with an indeterminate growth type, allowing it to continue development and fruiting throughout the entire vegetation period. The hybrid is highly resistant to heat and several diseases, including false powdery mildew, true powdery mildew, anthracnose, cucumber mosaic virus, and olive spot. Thanks to these qualities, Progress is successfully grown both in open ground and in plastic-covered greenhouses. Cucumber Progress fruits have a cylindrical shape with large bumps and a white-spined surface. Fruit length varies from 12 to 22 cm, and diameter is approximately 2.5–3 cm. The skin is thin, glossy, and deep green, while the flesh is white, very crisp, and completely free of bitterness, genetically determined. These qualities make cucumbers versatile for use — they are excellent for fresh salads and pickling. Up to 3–5 fruits form per node, contributing to the plant’s high productivity. The period from germination to the start of fruiting is 45–60 days, depending on growing conditions. For maximum yield, regular watering and removal of excess foliage for improved air circulation are recommended. Average yield in non-heated plastic-covered greenhouses reaches 14–16 kg per square meter. The hybrid quickly restores fruiting intensity after stress factors, making it a reliable choice for various climatic conditions and cultivation methods.
