Corn hybrid Sмотрич МВ is a high-yielding hybrid designed for cultivation in Ukraine, especially in the Western Forest-Steppe and Polesie regions. This crop plays an important role in the country's agriculture, serving as one of the main feed crops that provide livestock with concentrated feed, silage, and green mass. Thanks to the introduction of modern agrotechnologies and new hybrids, corn yields have significantly increased, as evidenced by the statistics of recent years, where total grain harvests reached over 25 million tons, with expanded sown areas and improved growing conditions. The regional climate, with a moderately continental climate, adequate moisture, and favorable temperatures, creates optimal conditions for successful cultivation of this hybrid.
Hybrid Sмотрич МВ has a medium-early maturity period with a vegetation period of approximately 115-128 days and a FAO index of 310, making it suitable for areas with moderate climates and avoiding risks associated with drought conditions during flowering. Seeds are treated with fungicides and insecticides, providing protection against major diseases and pests, including rust, powdery mildew, stalk and root rot. The hybrid exhibits high stress tolerance, lodging resistance, and cold tolerance, confirmed by evaluations on a 9-point scale. Rapid grain moisture loss reduces drying costs, which is an important advantage during harvest.
The cultivation technology for this hybrid involves the use of intensive agrotechnical practices, including proper selection of preceding crops, application of mineral fertilizers (phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen), soil preparation, and plant protection using herbicides and fungicides. The optimal planting density is 60-70 thousand plants per hectare, depending on moisture levels. Research results and practical applications show that, with proper agrotechnology and suitable growing conditions, the hybrid’s yield can reach 11-13.5 tons of grain per hectare at moisture content of 18-25%. Thus, Sмотрич МВ is a reliable and highly efficient solution for farmers aiming to achieve stable and high corn yields under Ukrainian climate conditions.
