Maize ES CAPRIS

Stable yields in challenging environments: applying ES Capris

The French breeding company Lidea presents ES Capris, a corn hybrid tailored for agronomists working in regions with moderate disease pressure. This simple hybrid combines genetic plasticity with high resistance to a wide range of pathogens. Its main advantage is the ability to withstand multiple diseases, effectively reducing the need for intensive fungicide applications.

Protective potential and field health

Under conditions of high disease risk, ES Capris demonstrates excellent resistance. The hybrid was specifically bred to counter threats such as:

• Verticillium wilt and Sclerotinia.
• Plant rust and Phomopsis.
• Powdery mildew, with additional tolerance to Peronospora (downy mildew).

This profile makes it a reliable choice for farms where crop rotation cycles do not always eliminate soil-borne infections.

Agronomic management and planting

The practical efficiency of ES Capris depends heavily on sticking to the recommended plant population. To reach target yields, growers should assess the moisture levels of each specific field:

• For areas with sufficient moisture: a seeding rate of 55,000–60,000 plants/ha is optimal to maximize ear development.
• For drier regions or low-input farming: a density of 45,000–50,000 plants/ha is recommended to mitigate inter-plant competition for water.

Choosing ES Capris is a pragmatic move for farmers who value hybrid predictability and the ability to maintain productivity even when disease pressure is high.
