The primary engineering goal in developing this hybrid was to ensure stable sugar accumulation while maintaining the kernel density required for industrial processing.

The significance of the SH2 type

The SH2 (shrunken-2) genetic profile ensures sugar levels in the kernel that far exceed those of standard hybrids. Technically, this is achieved by inhibiting the conversion of sugar into starch during the maturation stage. In practice, for producers, this means an extended harvest window: the sugar in the cob does not transition to a starchy phase too quickly, which is critical for the rigorous schedules of canning facilities.
